I'm having an extension/conservatory built it has a slate hipped roof which
butts upto the house hipped roof where they meet a box gutter is going to be built, the plans say the box gutter should be 300mm wide this seems excessive, the 2 roofs are not that big in fact quite small, does this sound right?. Also would alu be ok or is lead best?

Hi. The minimum width is 150 mm at smallest end (where is discharges)
However if it a box gutter please consider the tiles / slates will over lap into this gutter say 50 mm the 50 mm left would not allow pedestrian traffic for access or cleaning out. As for material, that depends on the skill knowledge of the fitters. With hard metals copper, zinc, alu, etc forming the drip end can be difficult when compared with lead, and i think it fair to say roofer are in general more akin to lead sheet than other metals. Good Luck
