Hi guys

We live in a semi circa 1950s, with a chimney breast between the two homes. This chimney is 1600mm wide x 500 and redundant.

Q... can I sink a 25mm deep backbox into this for a socket outlet?

(There is a vent 300mm to the left of my proposed location)

Regards

As long as there are no problems getting the wire there and it is mechanically strong enough, I don’t see why not.

Has anyone seen sockets located on a chimney breast before? :?:

Is it common?

Quite common to see them at low level on the side of a chimney breast.

No reason why you can't put one on the front*

*Providing the fire is no longer in use

that's generally what redundant means RF..

and where does the OP say the socket is to be on the front?

I put one in my nans chimney when they blocked it up and put an electric blower "fire" in instead.. had a bult in mantle with a void to hide the socket..

I also have 2 doubles ( allbeit surface mounted ) on the side of mine in the flat I bought.. better than stuck behind the telly where I can't get to them..
