hi guys,

my mate who is gas safe reg has just fitted the above boiler in my hose as my other went capput!!

problem is im getting no hw just ch. my mate is only been reg for 12 months and doesnt really know whats wrong with it. some plumber he is.

anyway ive taken a look myself and i think its the diverter valve. when the boiler calls for ch the pin at the top of the diverter comes out and presses the switch where as when i turn the knob to just hw and turn the tap on, the pin in front of me (hope you know what i mean) stays in!!

ive tried manually pressing the switch for the hw myself and the boiler fires up but gives me ch instead

can u tell me if im right and what my mate needs to do to get it working as i have no hw and 4 kids. your help is much appreciated

Your mate should have got in touch with Main and they would have had one of the Heat team engineers out to sort it next day.

All he had to do is quote his GSR number, but if he cant be bothered then you can do it yourself

Are you saying that he has fitted the boiler and it has NEVER given hot water?

If thats the case then he has probably been very stupid and connected the cold water in to the hot water out connection.

has he completed the Benchmark Certificate and included his registration details and filled in the other details including chemicals used for cleaning ?

You should be able to check that yourself by looking at the installation instructions.

From memory, the 2nd pipe is hot water out and the 4th pipe is cold in. But manufacturer's instructions always take precedence over memory.

If you call the manufacturers under the warrantee then they should charge for their visit if they find that its an installation fault like that.

Sorry but i smell a rat here. My guess is this is an illegal install.

OP call heateam but they will require serial and date of install plus installers Gasafe registration......and if it is an install issue they will bill you.

turn the isolation valve off underneath the boiler on the cold supply in.then try a hot tap if your still getting water at the hot tap.its defo an installation fault

powell thats exactly what i thought.why i said to contact the manufacturer, the customer knows more about boilers then the supposed plumber ,probably installed himself but got something very simple wrong and now wants an internet forum to advise him how to do it properly

hi guys, thanx for the replies

just to straighten matters, this install is legit.

yes i do know a thing or two about boilers, this is because im currently trying to become a plumber, just not been able to find a course that offers value for money. ive worked with my mate loads of times and he doesnt have a clue really when things go tits up!! his attitude when he goes out to a breakdown is 'its knackered and you need a new one', to tell u the truth he is a bit up his arse, thinks he's great cos he got a gsr number and i aint but im no idiot and wouldnt put my familys lives at risk doing the gas myself.

i didnt know he could ring up and get advice from main so i will be getting on the phone to him now to get it sorted as we have no hw.

can u tell me if main direct will sort this out or if the company i bought it off will

P.S while im here, i wouundering if there is somebody here that would be willing to let me work with them when doing gas install, for free, so i can get a portfolio made up!! i need this for the course im thinking of doing. wanted to ask my mate to do it but as i said he's hopeless and i want to be taught by someone who has got experiance

Hang on everyone, just going to get some popcorn ready.

This could be good.

Where is Delta T he is looking for mature student to teach the dark arts of plumbing and heating .I am sure he will be along shortly and he isn,t too far from your area as well

Good luck

The more I read about this, the less I believe that there is any Gas Safe mate.

Please tell me his gas safe number please, email it if you like. He will have filled it in on the Benchmark Certificate which Main will need to see for any warrantee visit.

The OP isn't having much look with boilers "installed" in his property, they always seem to be breaking down!. Looking over his previous posts he has had a HE24, a Keston and a Main 30 all since November. He's full of it :D
