Hi , looking for advice please.
We intend to open out this door and small window area to create a larger door opening by replacing the concrete lintels with a steal beam - RSJ to hold the joists on the inner leaf and a concrete lintel on the outer leaf. The outer wall has only 3 courses of brick above it where it enters the loft. The inner wall holds 3 floor joists and 3 courses of brick where it also enters the loft.
I'm not sure what size RSJ and concrete lintel to use to cover the new 60 inch opening ?
Is it acceptable to rest the RSJ onto the breeze block ( 1970's )inner wall or is a "pad stone " required?
Thanks in advance
