I have about a 2x3' hole in the wall in my house (before that was an ac unit).

What is the best way to patch it up?
How could I match the exterior brick to it?

Sorry this is all new to me. Damn home improvement.

Hi, Shnap,
I don't know what an ac unit is,
But, to fill in a hole in a wall, easy.
Cut out any half or part bricks at the edges of the hole, so that it is all full bricks, and no hard mortar. (use a 2" brick chisel)
Then put a line (string, on two 4" nails)across the lowest course.( first line of bricks)
And using the mortar which you made earlier, (check other postings for the mix, (6-1 soft sand and cement)).
fill it in working up to the top course, (line of bricks)
When you get to the last bit the top bed will be open so just point a bit of mortar in and press it in as best you can.( with a pointing trowel)
I can put a picture on my picasa site if you need it

Oh, cut out a bit of brick and take it to the local builders merchant for a match to the existing bricks.

Aha Shyt-Awks,
I see you are on the verge of becoming an enlightened one.

Thanks Nose,
Another potential member of the broderbond methinks.

Welcome brother noseall,
before becoming one of the enlightened, you should read The book of The brethren.
A printable copy is at.

however if you have any trouble accessing the site, I can lend you my copy, as I know it off by heart now.

Potential converts to the broderbond then?

the universe we see is just the atoms in a cherry pit at the base of the dry stone wall which surrounds the universe, only by going to the wall can we gain enlightenment.
