Our government is now making a mockery of our intelligence forces.
Those in number 10 have no boundaries IMO when it comes to trying to distract from BJ's woes.
In the process, they've made fools of /FOM16.

The Foreign Office’s claims were thrown into further confusion when the man it named as a “potential candidate” as Moscow’s presidential pick told the Observer he would make an unlikely candidate to head a puppet government for Moscow.

“You’ve made my evening. The British Foreign Office seems confused,” said former Ukrainian MP Yevhen Murayev, laughing. “It isn’t very logical. I’m banned from Russia. Not only that but money from my father’s firm there has been confiscated.”

IMO, Russia will quietly take over Dombas as the majority there are already pro Russia.

This government seems determined to heighten tension by feeding nonsense into the newschain.
The aim seems to be that any potential war can be sold to the public as one of necessity rather than choice.

Now where have we heard that before...

I wonder what the time 'threat' will be this time?

But borisconi needs a war to 'survive' politically whilst heading off to his bunker/fridge!

Yes and number 10 is trying hard to distract from partygate, bullying etc etc.

Sadly, if there is a real war and thankfully there won't be, the price of gas/etc and petrol etc will go through the roof.
Dombas is mainly pro Russian, why not give it to them.
NATO the west and the clown Putin are as bad as each other and the people on the front line and those living there are the ones to lose out.

The politics of Appeasement. Well it worked before.
British and French politicians feared a European war - and tried to avoid one through politics of appeasement. By giving Hitler what he understood to be his nation's right, he would calm down - that was the hope.

It was the fear of Russia that lead to the rise of Hitler.
Ironically the only thing achieved by the wests Russophobia was to make their worst nightmare real, that was Russia as a communist superpower.

It would be interesting to know who is driving this campaign for conflict with Russia.

I don't know they don't have an internationally supervised referendum in Eastern Ukraine and let those living there decide their own future.
After all the EU backed Croatian nationalists in their war for independence from the former state of Yugoslavia

The Russian economy is that bad they probably don’t have the financial muscle to sustain an invasion ?

I recall when they armed all the Arabs most of that equipment was if poor quality hence why the Israelis decimated the Arab air forces and most of the other Russian hard ware

than there was Iraq
Sadam spent billions on Russian anti air defences and that was not up to snuff either

however, since 2014 they have been isolating themselves from the likely effects of economic sanctions.

You will be aware that they are receiving vast heaps of money from European countries that did not develop alternative sources of energy to reduce their dependency on Russia oil and Gas. Therefore, if they lose access to international banking channels, Europe will not be able to buy energy from them, which would be inconvenient (maybe send truckloads of gold instead). By a surprising coincidence Russian fuel shipments have been rather low this year, resulting in huge price rises. Who could have seen that coming? Russia did, and has been increasing reserves of foreign currency and gold. The extra money received for high-priced oil and gas has been a great help to them.

US aerospace industry buys a lot of Titanium from the Russian Empire. Hmmmm. Put a stop to that, and who suffers from sanctions?

Ooops, no it wouldn't.

It is being driven by Vlad, Emperor of Russia

Who wants to rebuild the Soviet Union and views Ukraine as a historic possession of Russia, which he is entitled to claim back.

Funny thing.

No country with nuclear weapons has ever been invaded

Ukraine used to have nuclear weapons.

it handed them all over to Russia for safe keeping.

"Russia’s efforts to reduce its reliance on the global financial system have made it better prepared to weather the sanctions that the US and Europe have warned would follow a new attack on Ukraine. The relative success of what investors have called Moscow’s “Fortress Russia” strategy is likely to make western threats less of a deterrent, analysts say.

Meanwhile, the EU has not weaned itself off Russian gas, making any restrictions on Russian energy exports potentially self-damaging — and leaving the possibility for Moscow to retaliate by limiting supplies.

The western sanctions under discussion could go far beyond those passed following Russia’s annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014. They could ape punitive measures used against Iran and North Korea that all but cut the countries off from the global economy.

But Russia’s finance ministry, which has stress-tested worst-case scenarios for years and set up a unit working to counter possible measures from the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, says Russia’s economy could withstand even those types of measures. “Obviously, it’s unpleasant, but it’s do-able. I think our financial institutions can handle it [if] these risks emerge,” finance minister Anton Siluanov said last week.

The possibility of Russian aggression against Ukraine and subsequent financial retaliation from the US and Europe has increased after talks in Geneva and Brussels to defuse tensions were deemed “unsuccessful” by the Kremlin last week.

Russian president Vladimir Putin has deployed more than 100,000 troops along the Ukrainian border and threatened military action unless the west meets a series of security demands.

“When Putin asks what do we do if we get punished with sanctions for military actions, his officials can salute and say, ‘Yes, Vladimir Vladimirovich, we know exactly what to do’. And that gives them a sense of confidence that sanctions aren’t anything to worry about,” said Alexander Gabuev, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Moscow Center.

Since 2014, Russia has ramped up its foreign currency reserves and sought to start “de-dollarising” its economy."

You are not just wrong you are very, very wrong.

Which isn't unusual for you is it. Maybe you should change your username to "Wrong".

Putins position is quite clear & it is what it has always been. NATO's position tends to shift with whatever soundbites & spin they think we'll swallow.

Never forget, Putin is bad, Biden is good.

it's great to see the dork disagrees with me

that's always a badge of confidence.

UK is on a sticky wicket.

it can’t impose sanctions or it risks losing its gas supplies.

London is awash with Russian money from oligarchs

Tory party has taken significant donations from Russian billionaires
