my boiler is 3 years old ive never had a problem up and till today i went to put the heating on! the boiler fires up all ok the heating reurn pipe is hot but the heating flow pipe is cold, hot water is fine just no heating, ive bled all radiators just incase there was trapped air.im now stuck and need some advice!!! its a britony system plus duo cylinder

Hi I have just had similar problem, are you sure the feed is cold not the return? I have a brittany combi 100, the CHW gets hot but boiler cuts out almost immediately, the return is cold. There is a return line filter for the CH to protect the valves and pump from dirt etc. On my boiler it is located just before the hydraulic block. It is simple to remove just one nut and a clip now i have cleaned it the flow has returned to normal and all works great. PS don't forget to relieve the pressure first by opening the pressure relief valve and switch of that electric! If you need more info I can e-mail a parts diagram that might explain things easier.

His isn't a combi, and second you should never drain or release pressure out of the system via the prv, usually crud sticks to the seal and causes drips afterwards.

You have been lucky this time

I think the Britony system Plus 100 also has the same filters check out the parts list @ http://www.chaffoteaux.co.uk/uploads/img42aed75815f681.pdf

Pages 6 & 7 part number 565 heating filter!

Point taken the drain points should be used to remove pressure I was looking at the installation guide not the service guide.

PS I'm not a plumber, however the 2 Gorgi Guys both wanted to scrap my boiler this week so it's been a all or nothing attempt that has resolved the problem, your right I've been very lucky this time they wanted £800 for a new boiler!

Cheers Ian

Unfortunately us good guys are all tarred with their brush. At £800 I think they must have been cowboys anyway. Hope you can keep it working.

I would be very surprised if this boiler is only three years old.

Nor can I see how a replacement boiler can be supplied and fitted for only £800 !!!

The Britonys are quite repairable but it does take a while for some engineers to get to understand them.

The return filter is a great asset but is also a common failure point but its better than the dirt getting into the works!

Tony
