Broken Espag window lock

The square bar of the handle is rotating inside the locking mechanism and therefore I am unable to open the window. Any ideas how I can open the window so I can replace the espag fitting. Thanks

de-glaze it and and use a thin tool to wiggle the lock side back and forth until it pops open
