I stayed with friends at the weekend and one of them reversed into a wall and took off a main gas pipe, 8 hours work went into the repair and had to call emergency engineer out after hours - what would be a realistic amount to be expecting a bill for?

Could run in at around 6/7 hundred quid.
But building or car insurance should cover it

more like £2K I'd say but should claim off car insurance

And there was me calculating £506 plus parts required!

£84 for first hour then dropping to £60 p.h. But that assumes its a 9-5 job on a weekday.

SOmeone should have thought about protection if a car can get near it!

He's said it was an emergency engineer after hours...do try to pay attention

I had noticed that but we dont have fixed rates for out of hours jobs of 8 hours!

The OP has not made it clear if its an independent or a NG repair.

I am surprised teh OP has not returned to fill us in.

Aye good point I suppose, I doubt many people would expect to do eight hours after-hours. Yeah I'm suprised the OP hasn't returned either, maybe time to consign this thread to the skip...
