Broken UPVC door won't let me in!!

I appear to be locked out!

My flat has only one door which is a UPVC door (not sure of manufacturer over 10 years old).

Normally you push the handle up and turn the key to lock it. To unlock just turn the key and push handle down.

It locked fine this morning but now, if I turn the key to unlock it, the handle only moves down by about 5mm and then stops. It still lifts fine to lock it and when lifting you can hear the bolts slide into place.

Does anyone know how to get in please???

I realise it's been two weeks but did you eventually get in?

I hope I'm wrong but it sounds to me as though you were burgled!

Does your flat have a fire exit?

Very late reply but yes i got in.

Rang a local locksmith (who turned out to be a lad I went to school with!!)

The bar that links the various bolts and bits had sheared off halfway up and basically jammed.

he was in in under 15 minutes and quickly fitted a new one.

BTW, yes the flat has a fire escape but it is one in a fixed cupboard next to the upstairs window (flat is over ground adn first floor) which unfolds intoa metal ladder out of the window. Not much use for getting inside!!!
