I’d like to tidy up the outside wall above the front door.I’ve no idea how to go about it and how to make sure it’s waterproof. Any advice please.

OP,
Your render is beyond "tidying up" - it needs knocking off back to masonry and re-rendering.
Pics showing the context of the whole wall elevation would help for more advice?
