I bought a Buddleia Davidii last year, planting it indoors initially before transferring it outside last summer. Here's a pic of it at the moment:

I'd ideally love to keep the Buddleia at a height a few inches above the fence but I don't want to be pruning the plant too much if that is going to affect the flowering on it.

Any advice on how I can keep the bush at a controlled level but so that it does flower to it's maximum potential? Just to also let you know that it hasn't flowered as yet given that it was only planted last season

Thanks

Shrubs that flower on the tips of current season's growth, (Buddleias), should be cut back hard - to within 30cm of the ground - in late March or early April. It will then grow to the same size again, with larger flowers and brighter foliage

So, as my Buddleia hasn't flowered as yet, should I have cut it back yet? As you can see from the photo, I haven't yet.
