Builder Caused Issue with Kitchen Ceiling - Moral Dilemma

Is the same builder being employed to do the extension?
If so, then maybe a gesture of goodwill to tide them over until the work starts. A few nice bottles of wine or a cash offering.

If not, then he hasn't got a leg to stand on, but given the circumstances it seems pointless doing any more work than a quick patch up.


I once got lumbered with replacing a large pane of obscure glass on a back door. The wind caught it and slammed it, causing the glass to crack. I agreed to replace it as I was the only one present in the building at the time.
I'd just finished doing a tidy job on the putty when the owner came back and said, "don't worry about doing too good a job of it, we're getting the door replaced soon with a UPVC unit." FFS!

And there lies the crux. All the builder need do is agree to repair to a better standard. I'm guessing he's left it rough because he knows the ceilings are being replaced. Once others have damaged the ceiling then it becomes an issue for the customer. If he's smart he will have taken photos.
