I'm embarking on a new project to make my car safe from the street boy racers and local idiots who bang cars for fun.

I want to erect a hardstanding on the front of my house measuring 15ft l by 20ft w. The problem i have is that my garden to front of house slopes.

I have calculated that from the roadside pavement its a 1.5 ft drop and at the end its a 3ft drop to make it level from pavement across.

I have plenty of excess soil in the back garden and a flocal building site is happy to dump a trailer load of smashed bricks in my garden once I have got the surrounding wall/retaining walls done, then I can concrete the finishing touches, approx 100mm, 10cm depth.

What thickness retaining walls do you think i need and what the best way of doing it, I have been told i could build a single facia brick wall then put concrete down the back held by shutteres to strengthen and look good or just erect shutters and poor concrete straight in, like making dam walls.

Any recommendations to thickness and style.
