Building Regs or Planning Permission

Hi

We want to put a door into brick wall (top of the stairs on the landing). Basically we are going to split a bedroom into two small rooms, box room and a small bathroom.

Should we notify the council or can we just get a builder to do the work without having to make any notifications?

Unless your house is a listed building, what you propose would need a building regs application.
