Hi there,

I have a shaver socket that just buzzes constantly whether anything is plugged into it or not - just keeps on and on!

Does anyone know why this is, whether it is safe and how I can shut it up?!

Many thanks

Justin

A badly made transformer if its always done it, or could be the transformer has dry laminations, you cant do anything to fix it.
Most shaver sockets are only on when you plug into them, there is a little button that the plug will press on.

Thanks for reply.

The socket has always buzzed since we moved into the house.

Do you know if it's safe?

Cheers

Not quite. Most of the cheaper version (ie most of them) don not have any sort of switch and the transformer is powered all the time. Hence the constant buzz.

The OP could buy a new one - it may be better, for a while.

There's electricity running thru the transformer, that will generate some heat. If the transformer laminations are loose then this will create some heat as they buzz away to themselves.

Its just possible that the electrical connections are loose inside. Turn all the power off at the fuseboard and check the terminations.
