Hi Everyone.

I have a problem with our C&M Brittony 100 boiler. We have Hot water but no central heating. The boiler lights, goes to high flame, then settles back down to low flame and then stops.

I have checked several things... swapped the connectors over for the hotwater and central heating thermisters to see if the central heating thermister is not working. The heating still did not run.

I have run the hotwater and tapped the three way valve with a screwdriver to try and free up any dirt that may be in there, i have also tapped it when the hotwater was off and just trying to run the heating. Same problem exists.

I have also checked the temperature of the pipes. The radiator outlet gets warm, however the radiator return pipe seems to be getting very hot.

Recently the boiler has been making a kind of whining noise, a little like wookie as someone else has mentioned. However the boiler is holding pressure at about 1bar, when running this tends to go up to about 1.75 - 2bar.

At present I am suspecting that the pump is knackered. As although I can hear something running, it doesn't sound like the noise the pump usually makes.

Any help much appreciated.

sounds like the diverter valve. unfortunatley replacing it is a hell of a lot harder than just tapping it with a screw driver.
