is 1.5mm2 cable okay to use for a switch to power an outside light? this is to replace existing cabling, so that the switch can be relocated - the cable running externally is external rated and isn't being touched

its just a temporary fix until the spark comes in a couple of months time to do the major work
 
Yes, usually.

In fact 1.0mm is usually fine.

Use the same size cable as the one you are replacing. Also check what size fuse the relevant lighting circuit is on.
