I understand that running cables under loft insulation is a no-no as it reduces the current carrying capability of the cable.
But burying cable under plaster is ok.
Why is that ?
The wiring regulations give figures for how much amperage the cable is ok to carry when installed in certain ways.
so, 1.5mm twin and earth 'clipped direct' maight be good for say, 16A
The same cable might only be good for 8A when installed in thermal insulation. This is to do with how the cable can disipate the heat generated while it is in use, i.e the heat can escape well if the cable is clipped and exposed to free air whereas if it was wrapped in insulation the heat cant escape as well.
So running in insulation isnt a 'no no' - it just needs to be allowed for.
