Calling all interior lighting experts

I need to find 3 or 4 ceiling luminaires for lounge/dining/kitchen use.

Problem - Mrs Sheds doesn't like recessed lighting (nor am I a great fan) or flush.

And I don't like anything that dangles down on flex/wires/chains/rods/etc, or has fabric anywhere in it.

Any pointers to makers/sites of semi-flush lights that don't look like they'd be more at home in a shop/office/hotel lobby would be much appreciated. Dimmable fluorescent ones even more so...
