can a pressure gauge be faulty

sorry should have made it clearer the pressure rises and falls on the guage but it keeps losing pressure so i wondered if it was the guage not reading accurately as i have had vrious parts changed and leaks fixed

A pressure gauge of the type that you have can "over-read", "under-read", or move by the incorrect value for a set input pressure or even a combination of these defects. However if the gauge "increases" or, in your case "decreases" its indication, then the pressure is actually changing but maybe not by the amount indicated. In other words, if your gauge pressure indication is falling to zero or thereabouts, then you still have a leak.

Or maybe a faulty PRV. or split diaphragm
