Can a wood burning stove be too big

Hello. Im replacing an old stove which is 4kw. it never really got the room very warm. Its an old building with solid walls.

Ive run though the calculations for the size of room and its suggesting 6kw would be ideal. Id like to use the wood burner to heat other rooms, either by leaving doors open on using fans / floor vents so wondered if it was worth while going a bit bigger such as a 8 or 9kw or would this be too much?

I presume the only danger is that id get too warm? I had been considering direct air fed stoves only such as the exosy+ Panoramic 9 which is a 4.8-9.5kw fire.

If you go above 5kw you'll need permanent air vents into the room.

If the stove is too big it'll get much too hot in the room its in, and big stoves don't run well with small fires in.

The one I was looking at is rated Nominal 7kw - Low Output 4.8kw - High Output 9.5kw

Id planned to use a direct air connection rather than a vent.

My stove is rated at 13kw, Runs fine at about third capacity keeps the room warm and some extra heat for the rest of the house.

Thanks Foxhole. it was my presumption (dangerous I know) that kw range of the fire meant that it was ok to run it at half or third capacity as you say. I have double doors out of this room into a double height utility and a door the other side that leads upstairs. It was my hope that I could get some extra output/heat for rest of house.

This is the fireplace / old stove if it helps...
