Hi,

Currently my lounge has (cheap) laminate floor over a concrete floor. I am carpeting this. My question is should I rip the laminate or should I underlay and carpet over it? If I carpet over it the gripper rod could go into the laminate (which would be difficult with just the concrete) and the laminate would provide more cushioning that just concrete.
The only problem I see is that i would have to shave the bottom of the doors off

Rip the laminate up. The last thing you want is any future problems from the Laminate. There will be movement in the laminate with the moisture levels in the air. If you spill a drink, it will get wet and then you'll have no end of trouble as the laminate may expand, stretch the carpet or buckle up and cause unsightly bulges. "Why spoil the ship for ha'porth of tar?"

Thanks, I have no problem taking it up, but how will the gripper rod attach to conrete ?

Richard.
