Hi,
I have a lovely black victorian surround but it has an ugly copper hood ... would I be able to paint it in anyway?
Thanks,
Lisa

It might be better to remove any varnish and treat it with a chemical wash to turn it black, I do have somewhere a volume of chemicals and the finishes you can have but it would be quicker for you to do a google search !

Now found something called Liver of Sulphur ... do you know if this would stand the heat from a coal fire?
Thanks again!

Its a chemical reaction so should be ok look on some art metal work sites
you should find something on that kind of site.

If copper just give it a coat of Calcium Plumbate and then spray with heat resistant black paint. Shouldnt have any problems.
