Hi

Newbie question:

I've just overtightened a nut on my toilet cistern and caused a small crack which has started leaking. Can I repair such a crack?

I'll be replacing the whole bathroom in less than 6 months, so don't want to have to shell out for a new cistern if I can avoid it...

Any help gratefully received!

Doh!!!

Depending on how its cracked you would need to drain it, and give it a goof smearing of silicone. Let it go off, then realise you are probably on a hiding to nothing then go down the shop and get a new cistern and repeat after me:

"Thou shalt becareful to use dinky little pliers. 48" Rothies are no good for loos"

I would be interestedto hear if anyone else knows of way, but I would thing it is one of those things - chances are the crack will just spread.

It might have already been a fracture point from day one, but you just squeezed it over the edge.

If is low level, rahtehr than close coupled you might be able to get a cheap and nasty plastic cistern to tide you over.

The only way to stop the crack spreading is to stop drill it (2.5mm) and then fill with silicone.

Use a diamond tipped drill and do not use hammer action.
