Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? I figure; if the tiles are impermeable and so is the grout then no water should get through to the plasterboard right? :?

it would be better, easier and probably cheaper to tank it and use normal grout. Epoxy is a pig to use and easy to get wrong.

You also have to consider that making it completely watertight is hard, you have the corners, the join to the tray etc all of which can fail. also i there is any movement the joints will crack.

best to tank IMO

Yeh, I didn't think about potential movement fractures in the grout. I was hoping I had a more cost effective method of waterproofing my shower. :(

not sure where your looking but tanking kits should be 50-60 quid inc vat. they are dead easy to use too.
