Can I use something that dries quicker than putty?

I'm planning to paint my window frames (photo). Do I need to use putty here, or can I use something that dries quicker (such as decorators’ caulk, 2 part wood filler, some other kind of filler)? The gap to be filled is about 2mm

Many thanks.

You can use MS polymers, eg Stickall, CT1, etc. You can over paint them the following day BUT you need to hit them with a waterbased paint the following day. If you apply oil based paints directly, the oil based paint will stay wet/tacky for months (literally).

Run some masking tape along the edge. Dip your finger in some white spirit ( it acts as a release agent).
