Can't drain system

have switched off the boiler

Stuck the hose on the drain off

Opened it up and nothing.

I've even taken the whole thing apart and still nothing. I have opened/closed the bleed valves and still nothing

What else can i do?

The washer isn't on the end of the brass spindle, where it should be. Is it stuck in the drain valve? If so be careful when you pop it out!

Yep, as per @denso13, it’s stuck, using some needle nose pliers, should be able to release, but be careful

If i stick the hose on the bottom

And my thumb on the hole will i be okay?

Or should i cover everything in my room from the inevitable soaking?

Thumb over might be ok, depends on pressure and any heat.

A cold system and a large area covered with old towels etc. I'd place my thumb and then insert a screwdriver next to it and wiggle

Once the jobs done, do i need replace anything? Like washers to prevent leakage or should i just replace if i notice a leak?

The drain valve is only 5 months old

If you're draining down the whole system, can you drain the bulk of the water from a different drain-cock? That would limit the flood when the washer comes out!

just have the origional bits that you have removed ready and when you pull the washer out , screw the other bits back on , its called snatching its great fun

I would buy another drain cock. Nick the inners and have them ready for when you pull out with long nosed pliers. Be quick and don't dilly dally. make sure all bleed nipples are closed.

If its open vented block the vent and cold feed.

I would have filmed it.. But you would have been disappointed

It was easy work. Stuck a flat head screwdriver in the hole, wiggled it a bit..

Water started coming out... Nothing major.. Simple stuck my wet vac on the end to contain the water and drain the system fast..

Easy job.. Thanks for the advice guys
