cant remove upvc windoe handle

hi guys - one of the handles on a upvc window doest work anymore...thought id replace it....anyway, i can get one of the screws out which was under a white plastic cap....now the other side there is no white plastic cap that i can prise off to take this other screw out...so how the hell do i take the other screw out....ive tried scraping the plastic but it just seems to be solid..im sure there has to be a screw under there but just cant see a way to get to the screw....or is there a screw ?...ta
