I have no chimney breasts in my house. Chimney stack is supported in loft.

I have about 2 courses on stack which have fully blown bricks. Roofer wants to reduce height of stack and use some ridge tiles on mortar bed. This he says is for ventilation.

Is this the right way. Are those pots worth anything.

If they are old style clay pots they may have a value.

Best method is to remove the pots, perished courses and slab off with brick vents installed in the flues.

Can you please explain slab off. Is it a special slab or just slate tiles mortared. Wont it fail after few years.

Air bricks ? Should these be above the roofline or inside the brickwork in loft. Will plastic airbrick do.
