I want to remove a radiator and cap off the pipe work. Is it possible to do it without draining the system.

I was thinking of using 15mm push-fit edn stops and cutting pipes and quickly banging on the cap.

Does this sound feasable. What is the pressure like on a vented system with tank in loft?

How expensive is the carpet that is near the radiators?

Sorry you will have to drain the system down, but as you are doing that why not solder a couple of stop ends on, or better still lift the boards and firt them there

If you cut the pipes you will not get the cap ends on quick enough as the bur from the cuts will have to be filed off.Its either drain down as breezer said or a can of freeze spray.

Bearing in mind the points already made about the carpet - you may be able to do it if you get everything prepared. Push fit joints seal on the outer surface of a pipe so you should ensure the pipe is clean and paint free where you intend to cut it. Don't file it too much or you may score the surface - use wire wool. If you cut the pipe with a pipe cutter and not a hacksaw the only burr you will probably get will be inside the pipe - this doesn't matter as the outside edge is the important part. If the system is very old check you have 15mm pipe and not 1/2 inch or you find the new endcaps won't fit and you will be left with your finger in the pipe!
Good Luck!
