Getting a carpet fitted at the weekend and have just noticed that the skirting boards butt on Topof the laminate floor that is down at present.
If I lift the laminate flooring, will the gap between the floor and carpet be too big?
Will I be better getting the carpet layed onto the laminate, having a small carpet size step between the hall and living room?
It's all been newly decorated so I can't replace and drop the skirting back to floor level

Will depend on loads of things, how thick the laminate is, how thick the laminate underlay is, how thick the carpet and carpet underlay you chose are.

Try lifting a bit and see how large the gap is then speak to your carpet supplier, as long as the new flooring is thicker (maybe go up in underlay quality) you should be OK but I would seal the gap with a paintable mastic to reduce draughts.
