hi there,
i am contemplating laminating my hallway but leaving the stairs carpeted. i was just wondering how to go about laminating the space just before the first step. by this i mean as i already have carpet, how do i cover the expansion gap between the laminate and the carpeted first step? do i need to remove the carpet on this step before laying the laminate?
i intend on removing the skirting so to avoid beading, but as the step does not have a skirting, how do i disguise the gap?
any advice appreciated

You should remove the carpet from the first step (riser), lay your laminate with 5mm expansion gap then replace the carpet to the riser.
If you make a mess of the cuts, use underlay before fitting the carpet back.
