Carpet underlay for stairs

I've been reading rave reviews on this forum for the Cloud9 Cumulus 11mm carpet underlay.

Can this be used on stairs, or is it too thick?

Also, does it wear well for high access areas such as staircases?

I asked a similar question, see 'Carpet Underlay and Gripper' just below your post.

I was thinking of Cumulus but couldnt stretch that far, and was wondering if Cirrus would suffice.

Mattysupra kindly informed me that Cirrus was a better option all round, as Cumulus was too thick and soft and could lead to unnecessary wear on your carpet. I'm going for Cirrus in the lounge, stairs and bedrooms.
