Hi - Is there really much difference between 100lb, 130lb and 150lb graded underlay? What would be best suited to a living room? Does it matter what type of carpet we lay (currently looking at 80% wool)?

Thanks
:)

The heavier the underlay the better the carpet will wear.

In living room areas where you will have greater footfall go for the best you can afford.

An 80/20 carpet (80% wool 20% synthetic) would be fine for a living room. Basically carpets made from nylon/polypropelene(synthetics) will be harder wearing than pure wool ones but they lack the softness and resilience (bounceabilityness-its a technical term!) of wool and so 80/20 offers a good compromise.

Generally 80/20 carpets will be more expensive.

That's great, flooringman. Many thanks for your help!
