carpet/vinyl joining strip

I have a piece of vinyl which meets a carpet with the join being 178cm wide. I can only find a metal joining strip 180cm long.

Can anyone suggest the best way of "trimming" the strip? The metal isn't thick, I just don't know what the best way to cut it would be.
