Cat 5e - Cat 6 - confused...

Im a complete novice with CCTV and Ethernet fitting.
Ive chisel a channel in the wall in the longue to accept 5 cables - 3 Ethernet(firestick etc) and 2 for the CCTV.
Im a bit confused what cable to use...what would be the best?....Cat 5e or Cat 6?

No real need for CAT6 as far as domestic CCTV goes just yet, however it certainly wont do any harm to use it. It's a bit trickier to work with but doesn't cost much more than CAT5e and will future proof the installation. Your choice really

The difference with Cat 6 is that the signal wires are screened. So they are much less susceptible to picking up or causing interference. With the increasing use of wireless connections around the house, this makes it worth the very small extra cost.
Their higher frequency carrying ability makes them future proof, a good thing when they are going to be buried in a wall.

All the cat 6 I’ve seen just have a divider in the middle to separate the pairs ...unless it was shielded roll

You can get Cat5e screened and not screened same with Cat6.

the difference is the separator for the core pairs, if your using screened cable make sure you use the correct connectors otherwise its pointless.

Use solid copper cables, I doubt very much you will see the difference in using either 5e or 6, you may see a difference using shielded cable if run close to sources of interference of long distances.

Price wise doubt you'll see mega bucks on a 305M roll, unless you go from unscreened to screened
