Can a catnic lintel for a cavity wall be cut to size if its to big?

Thanks

not if it a catnic branded one you cant, they have a plate on both ends if you cut these off you risk the lintol spreading which will then sag.

There are specific welded plates spaced along some lintels particularly those at the very ends, so cutting off a 30mm or so does mean losing strength at these points.

I guess if you were to cut a lintel all the way back to the next weld then it won't make a difference.

its a standard, we have now slighty changed the window opening in size so that it does not have to be cut down.
We have over 300mm load bearing on each end.

Nowt wrong with more load bearing, why cut? leave it. as you say with more bearing. I wouldnt cut a Catnic down, just my opinion.
