Hello. I am replacing two windows where there is a problem of rain water leaking in. The lintels are also being replaced. The side of the house where the windows are being replaced is exposed to all weather elements. To resolve the leak, we are hoping to fit cavity lintels. The builder has said we won't need end caps on the lintels but reading up on the matter I'm under the impression they are required. Would appreciate any thoughts . Thanks in advance.

I assume your referring to Catnic style lintels which I've never seen being end capped. Indeed they are left open ended to allow the air flow in the cavity to dry any moisture from them.

End caps go on plastic cills when their ends are not captivated in the returns! could that be what your speaking about?...pinenot

Stop ends may be fitted if the area is high exposure or the brickwork is a bit crap, probably overkill, they ensure any rain that does penetrate the outer skin goes out the weepholes rather than creeping along the lintel and dripping off the end.

Thanks very much for your replies.

Yes it is a catnic style lintel I had in mind. The brickwork is poor and the fitted area is high exposure.
