Good morning,
I have just had a guy from British round to check our property to see if we qualify for free cavity wall and loft insulation. The loft is fine and we qualify, however the walls are a bit of an issue. Our neighbours had theirs done at some point, probably years ago and whoever did it didn't put in a cavity barrier to stop the foam leaching into our property. This means that British had will not do ours because they cannot add the foam into walls that already have some in due to mixing the 2 types. This apparently means they cannot guarantee it due to the chance the 2 materials may react.
This as you can imagine is pretty annoying as this means my neighbour is nice and toastie in their place and because of that we are not. The man from British gas said it is worth trying to find out who did it but if it was years ago then they may have gone out of business. He mentioned that them coming into our property with their insulation is essentially trespass and that the company may come and do it for free...
I would be interested to know if anyone has any experience with either as a hone owner who has been in the same position or as an installer that has seen this situation before. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do, we have a good relationship with our neighbour and don't really want to start a war over insulation.
Hope you can help
Thanks
Joe
