Hi

My mother lives in a bungalow (with easy loft access to every ceiling) and has recently been diagnosed with early dementia. She wants ,as do we, for her to remain at home for as long as possible. She is becoming forgetful and going out without her bag, keys, glasses, etc, and we are getting occasional calls from shops who say she has reported her bag as being lost or stolen, and when we go round her house, she has gone out without it, and it is on her bed!

Whilst we are only a mile away, it is not always possible to go round at a moments notice.

My thoughts are to have wifi installed in her bungalow, and have 3/4 cameras that we can access remotely,

a) just to keep an eye on her as she is 84 and a little unsteady on her feet

b) If we get a call, we can 'scan' the rooms to see if she has just left the object behind.

It would also be useful if the cameras would give two way conversation so we could speak to her and visa versa.

I could get someone in (recommendations - Southend in Essex) or it would appear to be a case of getting 3/4 cameras, fittling them to the ceilings and running power to each one.

Any recommendations for a reasonably low cost wifi camera, other than the £30 specials advertised on Ebay!

Cheers

You are going to have to power them, and as they are going to cover, presumably, bedroom etc areas security is a concern and I wouldn't use wifi in that situation.

LILIN LD2222E4 is cheapest with power over ethernet

Panasonic doesn't have PoE but is cheaper, and doesn't need a PoE injector

I don't know if you have a confirmed diagnoses but if you have not done so already get social services involved as soon as possible.

My Mum had dementia we had similar problems culminating with nightly phone calls at 3 in the morning with her completely incomprehensible. Trips over in the night to settle things it was a nightmare!

It took ages at that point to get help, once we were “in the system” the social services were very helpful, but you need to get some small amount of help first. Maybe a care visit once a week for bathing or a medical need then if things get worse it’s very quick and easy to get additional services.
Best wishes

What about this wired kit?

It comes with 4 cameras, each with a long cable which is wired back to a central point. The DVR and camera power supply is installed at this point. The DVR connects to your internet router using a network cable and therefore it would be worth positioning the DVR near your router. The cameras can then be monitored remotely using a web browser, dedicated application or mobile phone app.

I have installed a similar system (with 4 external cameras) and it offers a lot of functionality for the price.

Happy to help if you have further questions.

Be assertive with social services. There are specialist tele medicine companies active in this field who will be better placed to offer equipment tailored to patients needs.
