Although i do have a spare 8 core telephone cable i can link to that goes to the lounge and is accessible from the outside???

Depends how u wish to record or view the camersa.

Wireless Ip cams are not basic by a lkong shot as u stated in ur first post.

I will still need power from somewhere as already stated.

You could use spare pairs in bt cable but not ideal.

How bout droppin a cablez/conduit down from the loft u could then modulate video into ur tv aerisal system to view on ur tv

You can use twisted pair for base band TV pictures over short distances using a balun at each end.

A balun is a unit that converts between unbalance signals ( as carried on co-ax) and balanced signal ( as carried on twisted pair ). For a short run these can be very low cost ( a few pounds at most ) passive devices which are a ferrite core with a couple of turns of wire.

I use wireless IP camera's at home and have found the Foscam ones to be of a high (enough) quality. Plus I can view the camera live on my phone and it emails me pictures if anything moves in its field of view. All for about £70.

The only downside is that they could be hard to set up if you are not IT savvy and you have to whack a small hole in your wall to pop the power cable though.

If I based use cCat5e cable and bobs your uncle.
Wireless is fine, but bare in mind a neighbour who has a receiver on the same frequency can watch yours.
Sad and even more so with the advent of wireless video baby monitors. There should be a law against that IMHO. Or get secure encryption in place, although it does mention WEP and other methods.
30FPS is overkill. 6FPS is fine unless your in a casino or a bank.
A 2.4 lens is not very good depending on what you want to look at, you`re better off getting a vari focal one 4-12mm will suit your conditions most probably.
This will give you a wider range to use and determine what is your best view,
We use special tools or apps on our phones for on site surveys. To show you the client but we know what can see what for example and another fact is the camera going to be looking at direct sunlight. Never a good idea,

if a your using a GOOD, emphasis on the GOOD, wireless arrangement and your neighbour is on the same frequency than while your in the lucky mood buy a lottery ticket, you need to be spending around £150 up on your wireless tx/rx pairs and using antennas suitable for your range, you wont have a problem, a very basic approach would be to look for tranceivers with pair buttons not dip switchs, but then again most are scannable with readily available ghz scannners. If a lot of your neighbours have cctv recievers in your area then think about moving house, theres obviously a problem in the area hehehe. please forgive me if im causing offense to anybody im just in a jovial mood

Good is down to price and frequency. I had one job where we had bleed over from a neighbouring farm. The other company obviously used the same equipment I had. The client was not prepared to go to 5.2 Mhz so I swapped over camera ID`s and put the clashing one at the furthest point.
As wireless gets more popular this will happen more and more, so a lotto ticket will not be worth having if this happens to you :( .
There is a saturation point looming and the old analogue TV frequencies are being fought over. There is only so many bands you can use.

I agree with the starting point of £150 for TX/RX and tuned antenna (Antennae ? ). Then we are talking with line of sight obviously but still on the 2.4/2.48Mhz setting but with "paired" Equipment for privacy.

No offence was noticed, you spoke very true words.

Correctly set up you can often achieve longer distances than the manufacturers suggest, they just give a guaranteed minimum line of sight distance. For example 500mtrs when 300 was suggested. Good height and directional antennae are the tricks. And no local mini cab offices :D
