Hi. I need a new light fitting for the kitchen, but have been told by the electrician (who was sent by the insurance people and is too busy to do private work) that I may not have much ceiling left to fit a light to! What does this mean and will it limit my choice of fitting? Also, it's a very cold kitchen that gets very steamy, so will I be better with a fitting suitable for a bathroom (I'm a complete novice but understand that there are 'zones'). Finally, how do I go about finding a reliable electrician? All advice is appreciated!

If your doing it through your insurance i'd call them back and tell them the bloke they recommended knocked you back for some reason.
I dont quite understand what he means by " not much ceiling left" :?
Its a very minor job if the existing wiring is there and is all ok?
A would assume a standard fitting would be fine unless its a confined area and you cant see for steam.
You could even think about fitting a 4" or 6" extractor fan if your in the middle of renovation :D
