Ceiling light

Maybe it's not cut - maybe it's snapped off, and it's the permanent live to the switch and that's why the light isn't working.

Have you looked in the old rose to see if there's a bit of conductor left behind?

Regarding the 'cut' red wire. When I first disconnected everything I only saw two red connectors in terminals 4 and 5. No sign of any peice of red wire anywhere.

Time for a multimeter. You need to discover (power OFF) which 'red' and which 'black' are your switch feed (live) and the switched live. Although the colours at the switch plate are throwing me at the mo.

A piccy of the switch and what's at the ceiling may help
