Hi,
Had a leaky pipe in the bathroom which could only be accessed by cutting a hole in the ceiling!!
Any suggestions as to the best way to fill this hole?
I thought of screwing a bit of plasterboard?
If so, can it just be screwed into place?

Yes, it can be screwed. Smaller bits of retro fitted repair board can benefit from a bit of additional 'catcher' wood pr ply pieces, screwed to the existing board longer edges.
Or just fit a hatch over one of the sections for future maintenance....
