Ceiling Repair

Water has been leaking around our log burner flue where it exits the roof. I have repaired the leak and now have to deal with the damaged ceiling in our bedroom. I have removed the loose wallpaper and its all dried out now, but I was wondering if there is anything I should coat/seal the damaged area with before patching the area?

Update. The ceiling is plaster and lath, and the damaged section has sagged a little.

Cut out the square , fit timber above and screw plasterboard repair to it and make good .
