Hi I was hoping someone can help me. I have just done a big project in a house I bought. In the kitchen I have had 3 ceiling speakers installed - EAW CIS65, a Mackie Subwoofer and a EAW CAM150 amplifier. I plan to connect a iPod dock and Digital Radio to the amp but had also intended to wire the TV in the kitchen through the amp and speakers. The electrician (rather than wiring up an HDMI cable) has just left a dual core wire. Can I use this as an audio out from my TV into the amp and get it all working. The TV is a Samsung 42 UE6530 (or something like that lol) . Any advice would be great thanks.

Sorry to say but they've stitched you right up. Electricians rarely understand about consumer electronics. You needed an AV expert to advise you on the job prior to the sparks running cables.

Speaker wire (if that's what you mean by 2-core) will carry sound signals but it's not right. The cable isn't shielded so is open to picking up interference. The other challenge you face though is where to pick up those signals from. None of the usual domestic TVs have speaker outputs, and very few have dedicated audio out sockets. If your TV has a SCART connection then you can use that so long as there's enough space behind to fit the SCART plug.

Oh yes, who on earth spec'd your sound system?

If you have given the correct names and model numbers then you've got a DJ/club subwoofer which is ridiculously over-specified together with some 100 Volt line speakers and a 100 Volt line mixer amp. They are totally mismatched.

100 Volt line is what I use in factories when I need to run lots of speakers over a long distance. The quality is similar to Medium Wave radio. I'd never consider installing such low performance gear in home. The amp is also mono. Did you know that?

So you've got a £600-£700+ subwoofer with a not very user friendly low performing amp and poor speakers.

It is a screened two core - does that make a difference? Tv has a digital optical audio out and L& R audio out inputs in the back, so does that help?

The closest match to what you think your TV model might be is UE40D6530

That TV doesn't have audio out on phonos (red & white sockets). It has a PC audio in. It looks like you need to use either Optical or SCART. I'd suggest SCART because your EAW doesn't cater for an optical source and you haven't got an optical cable installed anyway.

Screened twin core helps a bit. For stereo signals we usually use a cable with two cores, two earths and then an overall screen. Is that what you have, or is it just two cores and a screen. Pictures might help us.
