my final finish i would like to be a matt white, can anyone reccomend decent emulsion.
i am happy to recoat several times probaly 5 times to achieve a nice finish.

You can if you wish use a plaster sealer or you could just apply a mist coat,as for paints Dulux, Gliddens, or Leyland would be fine. However if as you say the ceiling has imperfections applying paint will only highlight them and not mask them, one sealer coat followed by two top coats should be fine.
