Hello all,

I have a cellar. It smells slightly of damp and if I put a meter onto 3 of the walls it goes mental and tells me they are soaking. one wall is dry (Ragstone) and the floor is bone dry. There are no signs of damp on the walls. We did leave a box touching the walls for a year and it went a bit mouldy, but the cellar was hardly used then. Now the window is open and the door stays open, there's hardly anything in it and the damp smell is almost gone. There's also a radiator down there, but I've not had it on because it's summer.

Oh, and there was never a damp problem before this year, the ridiculous amount of rain is the culprit hear I think.

I want to use it a bit more, I want to put my records and turntables and a computer and a few other bits down there so I can make noise. I think it will be fine as long as I don't actually put anything touching the walls, especially wooden stuff. I was going to buy a dehumidifer, but I've read that there's not much point for my situation.

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on whether I'm right or not, or am I just thinking like this because I am inherently lazy and don't want to do any work / spend any money.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone wants to ask me any questions about laying on sofas or drinking beer and avoiding work I will be happy to oblige.

Muchos Gracias.

Matt
