Cement over wood?

I know plaster will not stick over wood unless a metal mesh would be needed...however will a cement render stick over wood?

I have a few walls of very uneven brickwork and wood supports all along a mainly internal wall but with very little depth in places, some plasterboard in sections too.

Eventually will have a multi-finish all across.

You will still need to mesh over the wood the same as you would with plaster.
